These two are getting married this weekend! Guess this would a good time to share some highlights from their engagement back in June!

Huntsville Family Photographer

I mentioned that we’d start taking on Family portrait sessions this year. I was definitely serious about that. These 3 sessions over the last couple weeks were really all about catching up on lost time.

  • We shot Bruce and Kristyna’s engagement and wedding back in 2016.
  • We hadn’t photographed the Dailey’s since 2013 when they welcomed their first little girl. They’ve got THREE now.
  • Brian is Bruce’s younger brother! He Brittany wanted us for their wedding in 2017 but we were already booked. The stars aligned and we were still able to get them in front of the camera now that they’re having a baby of their own.

Stephanie & Nate & Arya & Sybil

We met Stephanie at a wedding in 2013 where she was the maid of honor. She would eventually ask us to be the wedding photographers for her wedding day in 2015. We crossed paths again at another wedding in 2016 where she and Nate were guests. Two years later we meet again for a family photo session in a beautifully groomed, Rose Garden at Delano Park here in Decatur! This one may be the last for a while because she’ll be doing her Residency as a doctor three whole states away. Safe travels, friends! Hopefully, we’ll be together again soon.

Kelly & Donald // Loft 212 Wedding

We’ve been to Loft 212 in Cullman, AL to photograph weddings more times than I can remember. This time was different because it was an evening ceremony. Kelly and Donald also went the traditional route of not seeing each other before Kelly came down the aisle. Which create one simple photographic challenge. Many of the most important photos of the day would be taken at night. We made sure that the newlywed understood the limitations that this would pose to our usual style of shooting but that we had a few tricks in the bag to help capture a few unique situations for their special day.

Moral of the story? Communication and trust are invaluable traits a couple and their photographer absolutely must share.

Emily & Chris // North Alabama Wedding

The perfect Autumn day for a wedding.

Wedding photography has had the added bonus of making me a bit of a weather specialist. I typically make note of the conditions when we show up for a wedding, engagement, or portrait session so that I can have an idea of what to expect weather-wise come then next time to schedule something for that time of year. For instance, in North Alabama, the first through third weeks of November are best if you want a classic Autumn feeling for your photos. That being said a drier season will see the leaves turn and fall earlier. Because of this, I try to schedule times for engagement and portrait sessions pretty short notice so that it’s easier to tell what the weather will do.

Don’t Call It a Comeback

Has it really been three months since I’ve posted to this blog? Dang. I’ll change that. I promise.

It’s probably better that I put much more of my attention here than fussing over our Facebook and Instagram account. Not I’ll stop posting in those places, it’s just that Instagram isn’t a great place for thoughtful explanation and Facebook…Well, Facebook only shows any given post to less than 10% of our followers. Not exactly a great return on investment there.

How about a quick recap of the last several weeks?

  • Snowy wedding in Atlanta (The Trolley Barn)
  • Johnnyswim Christmas in Nashville (Sam’s Anniversary present)
  • Samantha catches the Flu
  • Kingston catches the Flu
  • Merry Christmas???
  • I catch…you guessed it…a cold
  • Happy New Year!
  • We started booking Family Photography and Portrait Sessions
  • Wedding on a Tennessee hilltop (Sacred Stone)

I’ve got a bunch more that I’d like to talk about and I’d imagine since you’re here, on our photography site, that you must be interested in that. So, we’ll see ya ‘round.

Maria & Ben’s Engagement | Creekside Plantation

We’ve been to Mooresville a few times over the years but never on an afternoon like this. The weather, the space to roam, the SUNLIGHT was all more than I could comprehend. Luckily, we’ll get to go back and do it again in May. ‘Til then. *peace fingers emoji*
